Rules are major part of PCM, which mentions what actions to be carried out for the flow.
Rules in PCM are extendable by creating our own business process. They are in turn nothing, but business process of Sterling Integrator. We have all the basic default business process set as rules. e.g. Archiving the file, Enveloping process has the out of box business process in sterling and we create rules and set those business process to it.
Rule Name is the name of the rule which is used in PCM and the business process is the one which is available in Sterling Integrator.
In addition, we have the option of including properties from PCM which can be used in the business process. This helps in passing dynamic values based on the work flows to Sterling Business Process and based on the values the execution happens.
In the above sample, we have set few properties and based on the TP, we can mention the property values. This gets passed to the Business Process and gets executed with the property values.

In the same way, we have more rules set for the default process, such as Enveloping, Archiving, Renaming, Drop Process etc. In case, if we want any custom process to be used as the rule we can do that as well.
We have to create the custom business process in Sterling Integrator before creating the rule. Once the business process is developed, we can go to PCM and create the new rule with our desired name and selecting the business process which we developed.
If we need any properties to be added to the rule, we can include that as well here.
Navigate to Data Flows -> Create Rule
Thus, a new rule is created.
Consider, a scenario where we need to split and send mails for each of the split.
This is a custom scenario and for this we create a business process which splits the file based on a Document Extraction Map and sends the file as mail. The document extract map and the email address and details are passed from the rule.
In this way, when we want the file to be sent to different mail address for different partners we can mention their specific details on their respective work flow.
Based on the requirements, we can create custom rules and use it in the work flows.
When a user wants to create a rule, he needs to develop corresponding business process in B2BI. Please find the reference URL on ‘How to create a BP corresponding to PCM rules’.
